You learn to give way to people crossing the side road that you turn into.

How to look in traffic

  1. Look into the road you are turning into.
  2. If someone is crossing it or waiting to cross, give way.
  3. Turn when they have crossed.

  2. First B, then A.

A cyclist turns right. A pedestrian is crossing the road the cyclist wants to enter.

  1. The cyclist turns into the crossing.
  2. The cyclist waits for the pedestrian.
  3. Tap the cyclist.

Try it yourself

This is best practised in the real exercise, where you click, drag or tap yourself.

Practise this

Watch out

  • You look only at traffic and not at the pavement.

Look ahead into the road you are turning into, and check for people crossing.

Tips

  • Slow down as you turn so that you have time to stop.
  • This applies to cyclists too.

Why it works

Rule H2 of the Highway Code says that when you turn into or out of a side road, you give way to people who are crossing or waiting to cross it. Look at the road you are going into before you turn.
