The five oceans
You learn to find the five oceans as the water between the continents.
How to find it again
- Find the continents first.
- The Atlantic Ocean is between the Americas and Africa and Europe.
- The Pacific Ocean is the biggest, on both edges of the map.
- The Indian Ocean is south of Asia.
A worked example
Tap the Pacific Ocean.
- It is on both edges of the map.
- Find the Americas.
- Look west of them, and also east of Asia.
- That water is the Pacific Ocean.
More examples
Tap the Atlantic Ocean.
- Find the Americas and Africa.
- The water between them is the Atlantic Ocean.
Tap the Indian Ocean.
- Find Asia, then Africa and Oceania.
- The water south of Asia, between those two, is the Indian Ocean.
Tap the Southern Ocean.
- Find Antarctica at the bottom of the map.
- The water just above it is the Southern Ocean.
Watch out
You tap the water beside Africa and call it the Pacific Ocean.
The Pacific Ocean is on the edges of the map. The water beside Africa is the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other.
Tips
- The Pacific Ocean is on both edges of this map, because a flat map has to be cut open somewhere.
Why it works
An ocean is a huge area of salt water. The five oceans cover most of the Earth. Once you know the continents, each ocean is simply the water beside them.
